It Was a Milestone Weekend for Mekor!
October 12-13, 2018
We held the 1st Shabbaton in our new home, featuring
Scholar-in-Residence Rabbi Dr. Ari Bergmann
and the
Hachnasat Sefer Torah for our 2nd Torah
The Shabbaton featured a Friday night community dinner, followed by an Oneg Shabbat & talk by our Scholar-in-Residence Rabbi Dr. Ari Bergmann: "Rav Kook & Messianic Zionism: The Era of Mashiach ben Yosef". On Shabbat morning, Rabbi Bergmann presented the D'var Torah: "The Flood & the Tower: The Message of the Foundational Generations"
Rabbi Dr. Ari Bergmann is the founder, Managing Principal and CIO of Penso Advisors, LLC, a derivatives/systemic risk advisory and money management boutique.
A much sought-after Jewish studies lecturer, he holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Religion from Columbia University, and his areas of specialization are the history of the formation of the Talmud and literary analysis of Talmudic literature.
Earlier this year, Mekor had the privilege of hosting a weekly class taught by Rabbi Dr. Bergmann during the time when he was an Adjunct Professor at Penn, and we were honored to have him back as Scholar-in-Residence.
On Sunday morning, we held our Hachnasat Sefer Torah celebration. The festivities began at Rittenhouse Square and proceeded down Locust Street, as we sang and danced our way to shul. The dedication ceremonies at Mekor were followed by a Bagel Brunch.
